December “Winter” Themed Self Readathon

December “Winter” Themed Self Readathon Well my dears, we are nearing the end of the year! I’ve managed (or will by the end of December after scheduled posts go live) to meet my goal of 12 blog posts for the year. Granted they didn’t exactly hit the “1 blog a month” rate I had hoped for, but I’m still doing better than I expected to be earlier this year. And that brings me to this one (as we’re all in panic mode trying to finish up our respective NaNoWriMo goals LOL). Introducing yet another Readathon for me to probably tank by reading other things LOL. This one, however, I think I may do better at than previously because this time instead of participating in someone else’s challenge, I am challenging myself with December’s theme. I’m reading books that make me think of winter, either by having something wintery in the title like “winter,” “snow,” or “ice” or by having snow/ice on the cover. Added to that, since I really truly am trying to continue knocking books off my physical TBR, all the books have to be ones I already own. I can’t use incoming ARCS or books I’m given as gifts for Yule or Christmas – they MUST already be on my TBR. Lucky for me, I have a LARGE mountain of books I’m behind on (as all of you should already know of course), so I was easily able to come up with six books for my list. As always, there is a good chance I will end up wandering over to other things on my bookshelves (especially via audio as that’s the one format that I don’t have something fitting for this readathon – who knew), but I really do want to finish all of these and should be able to with the university’s winter break coming up. Plus this means I may be able to do a winter themed giveaway in January as I continue to prune my overflowing bookshelves LOL. So, without further ado, the books I’m planning to read are: ROBBERGIRL by S.T. Gibson (eBook) – an f/f dark retelling of the Snow Queen focused on the Little Robber Girl you say? Sign me the fuck up! STEALING SNOW by Danielle Paige – oh hey it’s another retelling. I’m sure you’re shocked considering I never ever talk about retellings, right 😉. This one has been on my TBR for quite some time after a friend gave it to me, and I’m a little nervous as I’ve heard very mixed reviews, but we shall see. WINTERSONG by S. Jae-Jones – another that’s been on my TBR for WAY too long and that I’ve wanted to read dozens of times so far only to lose the book somewhere on my shelves. At this point, it’s highly possible a mischievous goblin keeps moving it, but this time I will prevail! SUN AND MOON, ICE AND SNOW by Jessica Day George – and you guessed it – another retelling LOL, this one of a lesser known tale that I really love call “East of the Sun, West of the Moon” so I’m very much looking forward to this one! (I’m just super amused that I ended up with half a list of retellings by accident – seems to me that is probably another “theme” I need to do next year LOL). WINTERWOOD by Shea Ernshaw – I absolutely LOVED the author’s debut THE WICKED DEEP and this is one of the few books I absolutely positively had to preorder despite my book buying ban. I am super excited to dive into another eerie atmospheric story by her! WINTERWOOD by Jacey Bedford – no that is not a typo LOL. Who know I had two books with the same title? Admittedly this one came in a mystery box full of books gifted to me by a friend, so it’s perhaps not that surprising I didn’t realize I owned it. It is the least “wintery” of a story considering it’s about pirates, but pirates are always a go for me, and the title still fits so I’m including it in my readathon because I can. So there! What are y’all reading in December? Do you find yourself reading by season or just diving into whatever sparks your fancy? Let me know, and definitely feel free to join in on the unofficial readathon! I can use all the peer pressure, I mean encouragement I can get 😉
