A New Venture

It seems appropriate for Labor Day to be the day I announce my new freelance editing services!

I have been debating taking this step for over a year now, fighting off imposter syndrome at every turn, until I was finally able to admit that this is not only something I want to do, but something I am absolutely qualified to do.

I’ve already listed my qualifications over at my new editing page (you can click on “Editing” in the header above or just follow this handy link: http://www.clmccollum.com/#!editing/lqf72b – whichever you prefer), so I thought I’d take the time with this blog post to tell you why I’m so excited to offer editing services.

Other than the obvious financial benefits of freelancing, the big draw for me to offering editing services is that I honestly enjoy doing it. I’ve been editing on a much more casual basis in my writing group as a beta and critique partner, and it’s been an amazing experience to watch people take my feedback and grow as a writer, both in confidence and in skill. I am, by no means, the end all be all of editors anywhere – I’ll be the first to admit that I am always learning – but I do have a strong background with my English degree (Advanced Grammar was required for graduation, btw) and I have a solid professional history of proofreading, editing, and writing for the medical, scientific, and academic fields.

I simply have a lot of experience under my belt, and I love getting to take that experience and help other writers find their strengths and grow to become better wordsmiths, whether or not they want to take on publishing as a profession or just write for their own enjoyment.

In time, I hope to transition to freelancing full time, but for now I’m easing into a part time schedule. This will definitely be a new venture for me, but I’m so excited to take on the challenge!

Wish me luck!
